A harbour city of art districts and seafood, gateway to Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum and the tropical coast of Kenting.
Taiwan’s great southern port has reinvented itself around its harbour: warehouses turned into the Pier-2 Art Center, a waterfront music centre and a light-rail loop along the bay.
Inland, the vast Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum draws pilgrims and visitors alike, and Kenting’s beaches are two hours south.

Old harbour warehouses turned into galleries, design shops and installations along the waterfront.
A vast Buddhist museum and monastery complex with a giant seated Buddha and pagodas.
A lake lined with temples, including the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas.
A short ferry ride to seafood restaurants, Cihou Lighthouse and Kaohsiung’s first Mazu temple.
Winter is warm and sunny here, a welcome escape from the cooler north. Summers are hot with afternoon storms.
