Five private days from north to south: Taipei’s museum and hot springs, Jiufen at lantern hour, a night on Sun Moon Lake, sunrise above Alishan’s sea of clouds and a final day in old Tainan. High-speed rail where it saves time, your own chauffeur and guide everywhere else.
Five days is enough to see Taiwan’s contrasts if the route is right. This journey runs one way down the west of the island, so you never retrace your steps.
You begin in Taipei and the misty northeast hills, then take the high-speed rail into the centre of the island for a night on Sun Moon Lake. From there a mountain road climbs through tea gardens to Alishan for the sunrise, before you descend to Tainan, Taiwan’s oldest city.
Depart from Kaohsiung or take the train back to Taipei; either way, every transfer is private.

A morning on the lake, then the mountain road through tea gardens to Alishan for the giant cypress trails.
